Founded in 1966 by David Crease as York University's Design Unit, the present independent firm of Chartered Architects was established in 1982 and practices from its own premises in the heart of Yorkshire.

Ian Smith Building Surveying

Ian Smith is a Chartered Building Surveyor and Certified Historic Building Professional able to provide a wide range of services to commercial and residential clients, educational institutions, local authorities and owners of listed and historic buildings in York and throughout Yorkshire and the North East. We are committed to quality, efficiency and providing a cost-effective service to all our clients.

Accredited in Building Conservation by the RICS, Ian is one of a small number of professionals in Yorkshire recognised as understanding the sensitive and careful approach required to manage and conserve historic assets and acknowledged by national heritage bodies including Historic England, Historic Scotland and CADW as experts in conservation and suitably qualified to be appointed to lead grant-funded work on historic properties.

Over the last three decades, Ian has played a leading role in inspecting, repairing and restoring hundreds of listed or historic buildings. IQ Engineers began as a mechanical installation company and we use this foundation and knowledge to design and supply products fit for purpose. We are delighted to be able to design, manufacture and install our own stainless steel IQ-Whipps 900 range under license from Whipps inc. USA. We have vast knowledge of Adams Hydrauilcs products and have successfully replaced or refurbished many of their products.

We represent Smith & Loveless and can supply and install any of their products which include the PISTA Grit removel system and the Everlast Pumping system.

York Residential Landlords Association

York Residential Landlords Association was founded in 1994 by a small group of landlords living in York. York RLA is a membership based, non-profit making organisation whose principle aim is to give help and advice to residential landlords. Since 1994 our association has grown significantly and we have an excellent relationship with the City Of York Council, North Yorkshire Police and all of York’s academic institutions, including the University of York and York St John University.

Regardless of how few or how many properties you own, we are here to help.

Our membership is made up mainly of part-time landlords along with a small number of full-time landlords/letting agents, and a number of other people who are interested in becoming landlords in the near future. Our membership currently stands at over 500.

York RLA is run by landlords for landlords. Our members elect a committee on an annual basis whose role it is to organise the association’s affairs and respond to the needs of members. The committee members are all residential landlords in their own right who give up their time on a voluntary basis to help the association and its members. In addition we have a dedicated staff member who supports the membership, committee and chairman, ensuring that York RLA is run professionally and independently.
